A thought and a moment...

A recent conversation with Ben:
Ben: Mom, how come when I jump, I come back down?
Me: Because of gravity. If you were in space you would float around, but here we have gravity and it's the force that keeps everything on the earth.
Ben: I am glad that we have gravity so that I can walk around to where I want to go.

I was relieved. I really thought he was going to ask me when he could go to space.

A recent moment with Max:

Max has his "nigh nigh" which is his blanket. He loves his blanket. I am sure most of you know what I'm talking about. That one item that goes almost everywhere with you. Well, nigh nigh desperately needed a bath. Usually, I sneak it out of his bed when he is having a nap or in bed for the night. I forgot. So, I showed him the washing machine and told him that nigh nigh needed a bath. He slowly backed away from me and the machine and tightened his grip on nigh nigh. I grabbed him and showed him inside and he slowly loosened his grip on the blanket. Finally I was able to put it in. Uh Oh. Not a good move. He was heart broken. During the wash cycle, wherever we were in the house, he would point in the direction of the laundry room and say, "nigh nigh?" I have never changed a batch of laundry so fast, so that we could get nigh nigh out of the dryer and back into the arms of his biggest fan.

A missionary

Some of you know the many "Ben stories", but most of you don't. Ben is a missionary. Everywhere we go, somehow, he shares something about the gospel.
Story #1
I get a call from Ben's preschool teacher. Ben told the other teacher to go to h*ll. I was in disbelief. I immediately drive over to the school. After talking to both Ben and the teachers, this is what I got. Ben was told that he couldn't play in a certain area, so he walked away and was standing by himself. The teacher asked him what was wrong and he said, "you're not obeying Jesus' commandments and the city is going to be destroyed." At the time we had been talking about Lehi and his family leaving Jerusalem.
Story #2
I pick up Ben from school one day and he starts to tell me about how he was telling his friend, Isaac, about the Godhead. "I told him all about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost."
Story #3
Not a story, but somehow every cashier we ever encounter finds out for one reason or another that we are LDS.
Story #4
Ben has been known to ask when he will get the "power of God" in him. We've tried explaining the Priesthood or the Holy Ghost, but that wasn't what he was talking about. Turns out that in the Living Scripture movies (that we borrowed from a friend) Nephi lights up and hears God's voice out loud (obviously, for a movie). Ben thinks that this should happen to him. He once told me that, "Heavenly Father needs to talk louder because I can't hear him".
Story #5
Ben told my friend that, "someday when I am building a boat and I get the power of God, then when my Mom touches me, she will get shocked." Ben thinks he's Nephi. I won't even get into the King Benjamin thing. Yikes!
Story #6
Ben likes to give "preach". This is where he stands infront of us and goes on and on about being good, loving, singing, mixed with scripture stories.
Story #7
We went to visit our extended family members that are not LDS. I was in one room talking to someone and everyone else was in the living room. All of a sudden, I hear Ben singing, "We Thank Thee of God for a Prophet" to his audience. He loves this song. One night at dinner he asked us what a "bounteous hand" was (first verse-"bestowed by thy bounteous hand"). Another story with this song...I picked him up from preschool one day and the teacher said, "I have something to tell you. Ben is going to have to move from the Northwest. He said that the clouds are satan." In case you are confused....second verse, "When dark clouds of trouble hang o'er us and threaten our peace to destroy..."

I could tell several more stories, but I'll spare you. I am not the best missionary, but Ben makes me into a missionary everyday, whether I want to or not. He amazes me with how he already tries to apply gospel principles into his life.
